Facing Your Fears is a structured treatment program that uses a cognitive behavioral approach to reduce symptoms of anxiety in children with high-functioning Autism.
The co-occurrence rate of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents with ASD ranges between 40% to 80%. Published case studies have demonstrated a reduction of anxiety symptoms after the use of modified cognitive behavioral therapy.
Treatment is available in both individual and group format focusing on:
- Identification and understanding emotions
- Understanding anxiety and identifying symptoms of anxiety
- Relaxation Skills Training
- Learning helpful vs. unhelpful thinking
The group is for children ages 8 through 12 years and their parents. Children should be at a second grade reading level or above. The group therapy will consist of about 13 sessions meeting once per week.
